Francophilia

Yesterday I went to see the latest Woody Allen movie, Midnight in Paris and today I have been thinking about all things French. The beginning of the film is a picture postcard of memorable French landmarks and throughout the film you are presented with a visual delight of the allure and beauty of Paris. Since seeing the film, I have researched some of the locations of filming and would like to share my visual delight.

This is the official poster from the movie Midnight in Paris

This is the hotel location Hotel Le Bristol where many of the scenes were filmed in Paris.

Symmetry in Design

Symmetrical balance is also known as formal balance in interior design. This type of balance is achieved by creating a mirror image on each side of a central focus point. The focal point could be a mirror, a fireplace, a window, a doorway or a bookcase.  Greeks and Romans were dominant in this type of design of their buildings. While visually appealing because perfect balance is achieved, this type of design is predictable.  See what you think of these perfectly symmetrical designs:

Amorous for Glamorous

You’re just too marvelous
Too marvelous for words
Like glorious glamorous
And that old standby amorous

– Johnny Mercer

What makes a room glamorous?

Attractive    Alluring     Beautiful     Charming       Captivating     Elegant     Bewitching

Color     Texture   Shine    Sparkle   Touch
